Dubai to use QR codes in holiday homes
The Dubai Department of Economy and Tourism (DET) has announced the launch of a new QR code initiative for holiday homes in Dubai. The move is part of the department's efforts to increase transparency and build investor and visitor confidence in the short-term rental market. This initiative is closely linked to Dubai's economic program (D33) to further strengthen the emirate's position as one of the world's three largest cities. It is also in line with Dubai's digital transformation strategy, which aims to transform the emirate into a leading global smart city.
As part of this initiative, vacation home owners will now be required to display a QR code at the main entrances to their vacation homes in Dubai. This code will allow visitors and guests to scan it and access important information about the holiday home owner and related contact information for DET. The initiative will also facilitate the oversight and inspections carried out by the Dubai Consumer Protection and Fair Trade Corporation, which is part of DET, by ensuring that procedures are strictly followed. The Department's Dubai Business License Corporation will oversee the implementation of the QR Code project, which will further expand the city's diverse hotel infrastructure.
Sheikha Al Mutawa, director of hospitality at DET, said that as they continue to navigate the ever-changing travel industry landscape, they recognize the importance of innovation and technology to further enhance Dubai's image as a must-see destination. To ensure efficient management of the vacation home segment, they are introducing QR codes as part of the ongoing digital transformation of customer and visitor touchpoints in the city. It also shows their commitment to delivering an exceptional guest experience in line with Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum's vision of making Dubai a better city to live, work and visit.
The Dubai Business Licensing Corporation (DBLC) offers licenses and permits to licensed institutions to manage and document their activities based on the holiday home classification system. The Dubai holiday home market goes through a rigorous classification process, periodically separating into tourist and luxury properties and villas, according to conditions set by the DET, which conducts checks to ensure that the properties meet the approved classification criteria.
