Uptown Dubai enters second phase of construction

Improving and expanding its real estate portfolio, DMCC, Dubai's leading free trade zone, and the Government of Dubai Commodities Trade and Enterprise Authority, have embarked on the second phase of the Uptown Dubai project. After selecting Swissboring Overseas Piling Corporation to carry out the foundation and support operations, groundbreaking began.

DMCC says Swissboring's main tasks will be cellar containment systems on the three basement levels of the two towers, foundation work for the towers, podiums and upcoming bridges, and drainage and excavation operations for the entire phase two site.

According to the statement, the second phase includes the construction of two mid-rise towers in Uptown Dubai, the southernmost corner of the city, standing at 23 and 17 storeys respectively. These towers, DMCC said, will provide 86,000 square feet of retail, food and beverage (F&B) space, complementing 753,000 square feet of upscale Class A commercial office space for the city's diverse community.

More than half of the area's planned towers have already been completed with the addition of two towers to Uptown Tower and two residential towers inside Ellington Properties' recently opened Mercer House, DMCC's statement highlights. A major attraction in the area, The Plaza, surrounded by the nine towers of Uptown Dubai, will be a hub for a variety of events including immersive art installations, music, cinema and fashion shows.

Once completed, Uptown Dubai will have a total area of 5.8 million square feet, of which 2.5 million will be dedicated to commercial office space. At the groundbreaking ceremony, CEO and Executive Chairman Ahmed Bin Sulayem noted that the success of Uptown Tower's opening last year was the reason for the start of the second phase of the project.

The 81-storey skyscraper is already home to the signature residences and suites of the city's luxury hotel SO/ Uptown Dubai, as well as the headquarters for 31 of the world's leading companies, including Invisalign, Wellbred, Hikvision and the Gemological Institute of America.
